The Foundry does...

You may have seen last month we all got our professional camera equipment out (that’s an iPhone to most of us) and took on Elaine’s camera club challenge. If you didn’t see what we got up to you can catch up on our Instagram page or in our last blog post.

Well, this month, as part of the Foundry Does… series, we swapped our cameras for cagoules in support of Ian, our founder and keen hiker. He’s set himself the challenge of completing all 214 Wainwrights this year, so we decided to tag along on one of his walks.

These peaks all lie with­in the bound­ary of the Lake Dis­trict Nation­al Park in Cum­bria, and cov­er a wide range of heights, from major moun­tains such Scafell Pike at 978metres (3,209 ft), to Cas­tle Crag, the small­est Wain­wright at 290metres (951 ft). We all donned our walking boots and waterproofs, which we were very thankful for as the mist descended, and off we set! With Ian already completing 160 of the Wainwrights, Angletarn Pikes was to be the 161^st to get ticked off his list.

We couldn’t have picked a wetter day to take on this challenge. But, stocked up with energy foods and the end goal of refreshments in the local pub, we stomped through the marsh, rocks, and water. Getting to the top of the fell was a great achievement and with the stunning views we instantly understood why Ian gets out onto the fells each weekend. Even though it was a little foggy, it was still a beautiful sight.

After a quick rest and some snacks, we all ventured back down the fell to end up back at the local pub to enjoy a well-deserved drink.
